These English Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for advanced beginner English learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester.
The questions are entirely in English, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling.
Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real England/UK Christmas theme, such as Christmas crackers and mince pies, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. An instant introduction to 25 vegetables in French. I like to share essential beginner French vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their French learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
We use the set not only when we’re introducing and practising French vegetables, but also for developing French language skills and awareness in general. Students are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. I don’t actually introduce 25 vegetables at once, but in my classroom decor, I generally have additional language to maximize students’ exposure to related vocabulary.
The vegetables are:

Ideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for English language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too! Bingo games are really easy to differentiate, and there is a range of differentiated grid formats to choose from: 12-square grids; 30-square grids; picture only and blend of words & pictures, providing learners with a real opportunity to practise all four language skills.
There are 100 grids in total, in both colour & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. These games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game.
This set of Christmas bingo games comprises the following:
40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. Students should also be the bingo caller, rather than always the teacher. As you call out words, remember to tick them on your calling card so that you can check the winners’ words - you’ll be able to use the same calling card for multiple games.

This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for regular use in the run-up to Christmas. I created it for the EFL / ESL classroom, and it works really well for learners across a broad spectrum of ages and stages of learning. It’s great to learn some English Christmas vocabulary, though I don’t expect my language learners to learn all of them, as the goals of the game are about speaking, listening and reading in English, and introducing learners to different Christmas traditions and practices through the images, rather than simply building vocabulary.
There’s definitely a UK-theme with some of the images, such as Christmas cracker and mince pies. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. Learners walk around, talking to each other and working together to create the chain. It’s perfect for pronunciation and reading out loud practice too. I’ve included a***whole-group presentation*** to prepare learners for the words in the game, and I also use it to talk about Christmas traditions we know, in the UK and beyond.
The aim of the game is to create an alphabetical word chain, with a couple of cards slightly out of order to keep learners on their toes! This can either be a ‘human’ chain, though having learners work together to create an alphabetical line on a table, or even on the floor works really well too. There are 32 Christmas cards, so perfect for very large groups. With smaller groups, some players can simply have two cards, or select another card when they have already placed their first card in the chain. The first and last cards have I have the first card and It’s the last card - Happy Christmas written on them. Learners love it when you play too! I use the presentation to work on pronunciation, and to embed vocabulary a little more - it’s great for spelling games and quizzes too. Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and you’ll be able to use them for years to come!

500 high-frequency Spanish verbs, listed alphabetically both Spanish-English and English-Spanish - a great learning support resource for KS4 Spanish moving into advanced Spanish A Level learners, and can also be given to KS3 Spanish students, providing verb audit tool, and a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning.
I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term revision. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically Spanish-English and English-Spanish.
I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a Spanish or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding Spanish or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential Spanish vocabulary.
For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA).
We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new Spanish verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource.

I don’t actually introduce 25 fruits at once, but in my classroom display, I generally have additional language to maximise students’ exposure to related vocabulary.
I use the set as speaking prompts too, such as Was ist das? to Ja / nein or Richtig / falsch questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as plurals or particularly negative sentences, which can be quite tricky in German, and often requires a lot of practice Nein, das ist kein Apfel, das ist eine Banane. and so on. This kind of vocabulary is really useful for an implicit approach to introducing and practising the accusative of articles too, for example Ich habe einen Apfel, ich habe den Apfel.
The fruits are:

An instant introduction to 25 vegetables in German. I like to share essential beginner German vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their German learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
We use the set not only when we’re introducing and practising German vegetables, but also for developing German language skills and awareness in general. Students are able to familiarise themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The cards provide structured talk opportunities, and students are also able to work on developing their listening, reading and writing skills. The language and structures focus on German separable verbs in the present tense.
The reference book includes all the questions and answers written out in full - we use this as a year-round reference resource too, and it’s useful for quick whole-group translation, vocab and grammar quizzes, which are a great way of revising and revisiting language and grammar in a more interactive and varied way.
Students use the Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. The question and answer card template is really popular too - it allows students to use their German practically and creatively, again using a multi-skill language learning approach.

The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges:
= Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages
= Ideas, Notes and Next Steps encourages students to reflect on their progress
= Card template for creative and practical application of language
Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years.

Perfect for young learners of Spanish and an ideal introduction to the animal kingdom in Spanish. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both***masculine and feminine***, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in Spanish too.
It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with Spanish, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators.
There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games:
Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in Spanish, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in Spanish.
Deck 2: picture-only cards, useful for vocabulary recall
Deck 3: word-only cards in French, useful for word recognition, reading and spelling.
Deck 4: word-only cards in English, useful for a variety of games focusing on vocabulary recall
